Measuring the engagement levels of your audience is an incredibly important aspect of your content marketing strategy. Without tracking engagement levels you’ll have no way of knowing if what you’re doing is actually working.

To refine your strategy you must measure certain metrics that will give you an in-depth understanding of your readers and what they like. In this post we’ll dive into four metrics you can track to truly understand your blog’s audience.

1. Number Of Comments

The total number of comments each of your posts receives is a great way to determine your engagement levels. If you’ve turned off the comments on your blog, then you won’t be able to track this.

Websites that have a very strong community also tend to have an active comments section. If you’re looking to increase your blog’s engagement levels consider having a strong call-to-action that encourages a response.

2. Number Of Social Media Shares

People tend to share content they have an emotional connection to. So, you can see what kind of blog posts your audience prefers by looking at the total number of social media shares.

However, make sure you’re tracking your social media shares and comparing them to other metrics, like, number of subscribers, incoming links, and comments.

3. Number Of Incoming Links

When other people start linking to your content, then you know you’re creating content that hits people at their core, or is extremely useful. If you have WordPress, then you can track pingbacks and mentions from inside your Dashboard.

You can also track your inbound links through Google Analytics as well, if you have it installed (which you should).

4. The Number Of New Leads

If you’re studying your metrics, then the total amount of time spent onsite always isn’t the most important metric. If people are spending time on your site, but aren’t taking the action you want them to take, then the total amount of time doesn’t matter.

A better metric to keep track of is the ROI on your post. For instance, if you have a subscription box at the bottom of blog post and see an increase in subscribers following the post, then you can safely assume it was due to your blog.

By tracking a few of the metrics above you’ll be able to create a better onsite content strategy, which will help to positively impact your business in the long-term. If you have any other questions regarding content marketing, then reach out to our team today.
