A portfolio page is a great way to showcase your past work and give your clients a representation of your style of work. But, did you know you can actually have your portfolio page work for you, if you do it right.

A lot of companies make the mistake of having creative portfolio pages, instead of keeping in mind what’s going to be the most beneficial to your clients and customers. Below you’ll find simple steps how you can improve your portfolio page.

1. Explain Any Visual Elements

If you’re a creative professional, such as, a web developer you’ll want to not only highlight the visual elements of the site you designed. Besides just showing the visual elements it can be useful to explain why you chose to implement each feature.

This will help your potential customer to see the process behind your work and if it aligns with your own.

2. Time and Cost

How long did it take you to complete your project, and how much did you charge? This feature is surprisingly absent from most portfolio pages. The better you can approximate the details of your project the more the client will have to work with when deciding whether to work with you or not.

It can be hard to give an exact time estimate, as it can be project dependent, but give as close of approximation as you can.

3. Your Role In The Project

What problems did you solve with your project? If you’re a web designer did you increase the conversion rate from the previous design? Explain how you were brought in overcome these issues, and the process you used to achieve the desired results.

4. Link Out To The Live Project

Make sure you include a link to the completed project. Images are great, but it can help persuade the client when they have an actual product to play around with. This also helps to persuade the client that the project you worked on is actually real.

5. Bring Your Skills To The Table

Highlight the skills you used during this project. If you used any technical skills then shine some light on these skill-sets. Also be sure to list the industry the project was involved in, so the client can see if the project is in an overlapping industry.

Your portfolio page is your first chance to really wow your clients. Make yours stand out by including some of the information above.
