Are You Committing The 5 Common Video Marketing Mistakes?

So, you’ve heard about the power of video marketing and want to start driving new leads to your website? Creating high quality video content is a great means to do this. However, it needs to be done correctly, otherwise you run the risk of wasting your time and money.

If done incorrectly your videos can do more harm than good. In this post we’re going to highlight the five most common mistakes newbies make when starting to make their own company videos.

1. Using Incorrect Branding

It’s easy to lose the overall purpose of your video – which is promoting your service or business. If you manage to entertain your visitor, but they still don’t remember what your business is, then your video isn’t doing its job.

This doesn’t mean you have to mention your business every few seconds, but it does mean you need to include your logo, URL and business name at the beginning or end of your video without being intrusive.

2. Trying To Do Too Much

Have you ever watched an entire video, only to be left very confused by the end of it? You don’t want to invoke this feeling in your visitors. When you’re making your video you need to focus on a single message and hammer it home.

Anything else will leave your visitors without a clear takeaway and course of action.

3. Not Considering Length

When making your video the shorter the better. People are already crunched for time, so if your video is too long they simply won’t watch it.

This also means your video needs to be captivating from the very start. If it doesn’t hold people’s attention in the first few seconds chances are they’re just going to click the back button.

4. Forgetting The Call-to-Action

If a viewer has made it to the end of your video, then you need to tell them what to do next. If you don’t give them the next course of action to take, then you’ve wasted a potential lead.

The remedy is to tell them exactly what to do once they’ve finished watching. Use a powerful and clear call-to-action.

5. Lack Of Focus On Audience

Your video needs to be geared towards a single person — your ideal viewer. If you try to appeal to everyone you’ll end up appealing to no one. This goes along with the previous sentiment of keeping your video focused.

Make sure you define a small segment of your audience and direct every aspect of the video towards them.
