3 Ways You Can Increase Mobile Website Traffic

Mobile traffic is only increasing. The amount of people who use their phones to access the web is growing by the day. There are also projects like Google AMP, which exist in order to optimize mobile traffic. You can already see that Google is putting a ton of energy into a mobile first future.

If you rely on Google in order to power your business it’s a smart idea to get on their good side. But, how can you more effectively optimize your site for mobile, while also increasing the levels of traffic you receive?

Glad you asked. Below we outline three different ways you can improve your website and the total amount of mobile traffic you receive.

1. Create From a Mobile First Perspective

Get into the head of your mobile users. What are the main things your user is going to be looking for when using your mobile website? Chances are it’s going to be different from when they’re using your desktop website.

Make your decisions based upon what your mobile users are going to expect and create from that point.

Make sure you address common points of resistance, such as, not being able to read your site, having buttons that don’t work on the mobile screen, or having complex navigation.

Don’t make mobile design an afterthought. Start from this point and build your site out with the mobile browser in mind.

2. Go Responsive, or Not at All

By not having a responsive website you’re effectively killing your website traffic. By having a site that doesn’t adjust to a smaller screen you’re making it incredibly difficult for your visitor to actually use your site.

Asking them to perform any actions when they can’t even use your site is near impossible. Instead of building out a separate mobile website, we recommend switching up to a responsive theme. That way your site will look good no matter the screen size it’s viewed upon.

This will also help you avoid future updates as new screen sizes are introduced and become more widely used.

3. Improve the Speed of Your Site

Website speed is incredibly important for SEO purposes, and creating a good user experience across desktop browsers, but it’s also very important for mobile traffic as well. When people are using their mobile browsers, chances are they aren’t going to have the strongest wi-fi or data connection.

This means you’ll need to have an optimized code base and have compressed media to ensure your site loads as fast as possible.

You can also improve the speed of your website by running it through Google’s mobile friendliness test. This will give you recommendations to speed up your website and make it run more efficiently.

If you’re going to have a complete overhaul it’s important to choose a theme that’s very simple and responsive (like we mentioned above).

Taking advantage of mobile traffic has a lot to do with optimizing your website to the preferences of mobile users. That way your site will rise in the rankings and be primed to handle a ton of new traffic, while pleasing your newfound visitors.
